David Bercovici-Artieda is a seasoned Cinematographer with an illustrious career spanning over three decades. As a cherished member of esteemed organizations such as the International Cinematographers Guild in both the USA and Canada, the Canadian Academy of Film and TV, the Canadian Society of Cinematographers, and the Directors Guild of Canada, David’s influence in the world of cinematography is profound.

Hailing from Ecuador, this dynamic filmmaker’s journey into the realm of visual storytelling commenced at a tender age of six through television performance, ultimately fostering a passion for photography. By nine, David was captivated by the art of capturing moments, delving into the intricacies of developing and printing both color and black & white photographs.

Driven by a quest to master languages – be it English, French, or the universal language of cinema – David relocated to Canada to pursue Film Studies, graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from Concordia University in Montreal and earning a Certificate of Excellence from Vancouver Film School.

From humble beginnings as a loader, David’s ascent to becoming a dedicated cinematographer is a testament to his unwavering commitment to excellence. Throughout his career, he has collaborated with industry luminaries while nurturing emerging talents, embodying a spirit of inclusivity by amplifying diverse voices.

In recognition of his exceptional talent, David was granted residency in the United States as “an individual possessing extraordinary ability in the arts” in 2019.

David’s work has left an indelible mark on audiences worldwide, with notable contributions to the success of acclaimed productions like “Rescued By Ruby” for Netflix, which garnered a perfect score in ratings. His portfolio has been showcased at prestigious film festivals including Houston, Chicago, New York, and Los Angeles, earning acclaim in trade magazines across Ecuador and Canada.

A passionate advocate for children’s rights, David shot the documentary “Think Again,” shedding light on the issue of youth sexual exploitation and receiving the 2010 Beyond Borders Media Award for his efforts.

In 2018, David’s directorial and cinematographic prowess was showcased in the award-winning short film “Boulevard,” earning recognition in various festivals, including selection for the esteemed Content London’s “From Short to Series” program in December 2019.

Beyond accolades, David’s creative compass is guided by narratives that champion the resilience of the human spirit and advocate for social justice.

His latest endeavor, “The Fast Runner,” is a poignant tale of a young Jewish girl’s survival during the Nazi extermination camps, epitomizing themes of compassion and hope. Shot using a blend of 35mm, medium format still photography, and HighDef, the film is slated for its world premiere in the fall of 2024.

When he is not busy creating or collaborating in film, David spends his time playing drums and latin American percussion while enjoying the simplicity of rural life and tending to his vegetable garden with his wife Patricia and their rescued dog, Gala.
